The Experience

We are a new rescue centre (and the first one) for stray dogs in the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Peru. This is an exciting time to get involved with us. We need help with: the daily operation of the rescue centre, hosting tours of the shelter for visitors, the construction of the remaining unfinished pieces of our infrastructure, working with the local population to raise awareness in dog welfare.

This was a very interesting experience. If a very basic lifestyle is okay then this will be great for you. The water pressure dropped to nothing fairly regularly while I was there. The kitchen is very 'gheto' and nights very cold. The dogs are all absolutely lovely I never had any issues with them being anything but incredibly loving and playful with people. I was lucky enough to watch a litter of puppies grow up while I was there! Fabrizio is amazing he's super super kind all the time. He does sometimes forgot to follow through on things so don't expect everything to be done in record time!

We had a lovely time here! We stayed for a week and really enjoyed the daily tasks, feeding the dogs, cleaning up the poop, cuddling the dogs. We loved learning how to care for the dogs with injuries, learning physio therapy etc. We also helped with some gardening and structure work as the place fairly new and continually improving the site. We had a comfortable stay in a comfortable bed and use of a basic kitchen. Everyone was very friendly. We wish we could have stayed longer!
